Nestle gets new MD, Alile chairs Unilever board

Nestlé Nigeria Plc has announced the appointment of a new Managing Director/Chief Executive. He is Mr. Martin Woolnough.

He succeeds Mr. Klaus Wachsmuth, who had served in that capacity from November 2002, and has been assigned a new responsibility within the Nestle Group.

An Australian/British national, Woolnough began his career in Nestle Australia in 1983 in the sales division, and rose to the position of National Sales Manager in 1992.

He was in that position until 1996.

Between 1996 and 1997, he took part in various strategic projects in sales and supply chain in Nestle South Africa and Australia.

In 1997, he was transferred to the Nestle International headquarters in Vevey, Switzerland.

He then became Supply Chain Manager for Nestle Turkey in 2001, and later appointed as General Manager of Nestle Uzbekistan in 2002.

In August 2004, he became the country Business Manager for Nestle Waters in Lebanon, Jordan and Syria, the position he held until his new appointment.

In the same vein, Unilever Nigeria Plc has appointed Apostle Hayford Alile as Chairman, Board of Directors, while Mr. Atedo Peterside and Senator Udo Udoma became non-executive directors

Their appointments took effect from January 1, 2008.

Alile replaced Mr. Felix Ohiwerei, who stepped down on the of December 1, 2007.

Alile was born in Benin City, Edo State in 1940. He studied at the University of Ibadan, Howard University in Washington,Graduate School of Management at Rutgers University, Public Administration Centre, Kent, England and Harvard Graduate Business School, Boston, USA. He joined the Board of Unilever Nigeria Plc in April 2001. Alile presently serves on the boards of many other companies in Nigeria.
